Virtuosity
and Accessibility
Bradley Sowash possesses a rare combination of accessible jazz virtuosity
and inspired story telling, qualities that led Billboard Magazine to declare he can
really move an audience along with zest and wit.
All my concerts include a few familiar
jazz standards, but I most enjoy reaching for feelings that words leave untouched in my
original compositions. My stories are also an integral part of every performance which
sets up a rapport with listeners. (I'm like a singer-songwriter except that my
"lyrics" are between songs.) I talk about humorous or touching experiences
as a parent, gigging musician, sailor, horseman, nature lover and traveler. It all
connects to my melodies making for an intimate connection with my listeners. -

| 2. House Concerts |
| Mozart was well
known for performing "parlor concerts," in the homes of patrons who would
delight in the opportunity to show off their acquaintance with him. Things have changed,
however, and you no longer need to be rich to have access to some of the finest talent
available. What is a House Concert?
A house concert is an invitation-only concert presented in the home of a host who
does not profit from the event.
House concerts are usually:
* held indoors and on weekends
* attended by 30-50 people
* paid for by a $10-20 donation per guest (for the performer)
* CDs and books sales after the
performance also help compensate the artist
* known to include light snacks, beverages or a pot-luck dinner
* attended by the host's friends, neighbors, co-workers, and maybe a few fans of the
artist in the 25-60 age group
* very intimate - the audiences sit close and are attentive
* performed as two, 40-minute sets with a 20 minute break
* booked without a financial guarantee (sometimes a modest guarantee to cover expenses)
* known to house and feed the artist for the night |
